 COURSE DESCRIPTION

This program is offered for .2 CEUs or 2 hours of continuing professional development (Intermediate Level: Related area).

ProCourse began in May, 2002 in response to a mandate by the State of Florida that all healthcare practicioners complete a "Prevention of Medical Errors" course every licensure period. Ironically, no course existed. Rather than take a generic cost/benefit ratio, statistical analysis of the number of medical errors per year" course, the goal was to develop courses for specific disciplines that would ACTUALLY prevent errors in a medical setting.

The response was overwhelmingly positive to the first course for the Speech-Language Pathologist, which was developed with strict adherence to the ASHA guidelines for CEU offerings. A Prevention of Medical Errors course for Physical Therapists and Physical Therapy Assistants followed, and then Occupational Therapy and Occupational Therapy Assistants. A Prevention for Medical Errors for Audiologists is under development.

See course outline below.
